Coming down out of the freezing sky with its depths of light, like an angel, or a Buddha with wings, it was beautiful, and accurate, striking the snow and whatever was there with a force that left the imprint of the tips of its wings — five feet apart — and the grabbing thrust of its feet, and the indentation of what had been running through the white valleys of the snow — and then it rose, gracefully, and flew back to the frozen marshes to lurk there, like a little lighthouse, in the blue shadows — so I thought: maybe death isn’t darkness, after all, but so much light wrapping itself around us — as soft as feathers — that we are instantly weary of looking, and looking, and shut our eyes, not without amazement, and let ourselves be carried, as through the translucence of mica, to the river that is without the least dapple or shadow, that is nothing but light — scalding, aortal light — in which we are washed and washed out of our bones. Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone. Todays card is from Joanna Sheens Vintage Christmas Cards cdrom. A lovely image of a little girl with her snowballs. I have glittered the snow in the picture and mounted the image onto some dark green card. The backing paper is just a red gingham from my stash. There are some lovely images on this cd..I especially love both the flowers and the bird sections. I say that every year you could give me the same cds and every year I would no doubt either pick different images or pick the same image but treat it in a different way. The more we work as crafters..the more our own style develops. We learn new techniques and add them to what we already do and that can change the whole look of the card. That's the one thing that I love about being a crafter..there's always something new to learn and something new to play with.
Well today is Halloween..when I was little it was always called All Hallows Eve..to give it it's proper name. In my home it was always a celebration. It celebrated the ancestors. The people that had gone before and it was always a time to celebrate their lives. It was an unusual occurance where I lived and I don't know when this tradition began but it is something that we continue today. As a child I thought it was a wonderful time..there was something magical about it all...listening to the stories about the older people. In a way it made me feel connected with family members that I never knew. Through the magic of this evening I got to know the family stories that would have otherwise simply have been forgotton. I get to tell the same stories to my son. These days All Hallows Eve seems to have been taken over with the americanised version, all about horror and trick or treating. It was never about horror when I was a child..it was really a happy family time connecting with family memories. Tommorrow would be the day that we would visit the graves and leave flowers. Graveyards were not considered scary places..they were just places that we went to honour the memories of those who had passed away. It's just another case of how things change I suppose. However you celebrate Halloween or not..I hope that you all have a good day and maybe take time to remember your ancestors.
The coffee calls and I've lots of orders to list and sort through. So wherever you are and whatever way you are going to do..I hope you have a good one..take care and happy crafting.
