Coming down out of the freezing sky with its depths of light, like an angel, or a Buddha with wings, it was beautiful, and accurate, striking the snow and whatever was there with a force that left the imprint of the tips of its wings — five feet apart — and the grabbing thrust of its feet, and the indentation of what had been running through the white valleys of the snow — and then it rose, gracefully, and flew back to the frozen marshes to lurk there, like a little lighthouse, in the blue shadows — so I thought: maybe death isn’t darkness, after all, but so much light wrapping itself around us — as soft as feathers — that we are instantly weary of looking, and looking, and shut our eyes, not without amazement, and let ourselves be carried, as through the translucence of mica, to the river that is without the least dapple or shadow, that is nothing but light — scalding, aortal light — in which we are washed and washed out of our bones. Under the mistletoe

Todays card is from Joanna Sheens Hollypong Hill Christmas cdrom. As many of you know, I love this cd and all it's images. I can't believe just how much is packed into this cd. There are fabulous backing papers as well. The image today I mounted onto some burgundy card, as I also did with the backing paper. I made a little mistle toe bough to go with the card. I used pearls to represent the mistletoe berries. When I was little I made a lot of pocket money selling mistletoe at the farm gate. Of course that was in the dark ages when children could be left to do something like that without any worries.I used to make quite a lot of money selling various things at the gate..mistletoe, holly, eggs, berries. I was always surprised at what people would buy. I mean I used to pick berries for free and was amazed that people would buy them when they could have so easily picked their own. These days I find it hard to pick blackberries because I can't get the wheelchair into the field where the best brambles are. But I'm lucky enough to have a couple of friends who picked some for me..so I can still have the taste of summer in the middle of winter.

When I was in my teens, I used to earn money by picking soft fruit at a fruit farm..strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries..they were fun times. At the weekends I used to work on a cheese stall at the local market. I can still cut a pound of cheese off a round with none over..lol. I don't know what use it is to me now but it's one of my hidden talents..lol. I also used to be able to pick up six eggs in each hand and put them into their boxes..it's just something that happened when I was working at it every week. The job that I hated the most was unwrapping a whole Stilton at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning. Don't get me wrong..I love a piece of good stilton and some grapes but the smell of a whole one first thing in a morning was not a good thing.

The weather here in the mountains is not too bad today..it's still cold but not as miserable as it was. I took my life into my hands this morning and changed the papers in the cat pens...lol. The thing is that I was given some newspapers to use and the house where they came from has a cat and obviously a lot of catnip. When the papers arrived all my cats went mad. Loving the paper and rolling on it..they have never before had such a reaction to catnip...lol Well the minute I put it into the pens, the cats in them went into raptures. They are all asleep at the moment..having worn themselves out with the catnip. I'm going to have to find out where they get it from...it's so worth the spectacle.

I think I went into christmas meltdown last night. All of a sudden, it was all too much. It took 4 cigarettes, three pills and 2 cups of coffee to calm down. But I'm fine now...I've worked everything out..made lists and now am calm again. A plan is all that I needed and now everything looks alot more manageable. I intend to just plod my way through..slowly as I only have one speed. My friends Sunshine and Mr. 5 cheeks are coming on monday..I'm so looking forward to that.So I'd better be getting on. I'm off now for my daily dose of caffeine..well my third actually...so until tomorrow..take care and happy crafting
